The Choice
A baby born to doting parents might
well grow up with an answer to each cry,
and find a savior for their every fright
and kudos for each daring thing they try.
This happy baby, lucky born and bred,
might never see old age, nor pauper’s debt,
nor suffer paradox, nor sickness dread,
nor waken screaming from a nightmare. Yet
into each life comes sudden test and trial
that fills a loving heart with deepest care.
The only thing that makes this life worthwhile
is also what makes death so hard to bear.
Yet I choose love for all that love is worth
though sorrow finally fill my soul with dearth.
